Canon PIXMA iP4970 A4 Printer Review
Canon PIXMA the leading inkjet printer brand in the Philippines sent me a review unit of the PIXMA iP4970. It’s a single function A4 printer that umm yes functions as a printer. The iP4970 is the top of the line model among the A4 single function bunch. Kindly note that the printer is not brand new, thus you will see some noticeable scratches with the actual photos of the unit. Physical The PIXMA iP4970 being the top of the line single function A4 printer share a lot of things from its higher-end models like the MG6270 and the A3 wonder [...]
Canon PIXMA MG6270 Printer Review
Regie Fernando on July 12th, 2012 with 3 Comments
Few weeks ago we received one of the newest printer of Canon PIXMA, the MG6270. The MG6270 is a dual-function printer that scan and print. Essentially the A4 printer has the newest technology of PIXMA, including the Intelligent Touch System, Cloud Link services and hybrid ink system. The basics; read my iX6570 review to get some printer cum color management sorta primer. The built of the MG6270 is the same as the current models of PIXMA which has an elegant black glossy plastic finish or piano black as some may describe it. I’ll repeat it again, I’m not a big [...]
Canon G1X vs. Fuji X10 Sample Comparison
Regie Fernando on March 15th, 2012 with 1 Comment
Two weeks ago at the PiPho Coffee EB in Bonifacio Highstreet, Jojo “sixpack” brought his brand spanking new Canon G1x. It was the star of the night aside from the 8-15 Lens “Shuttercat” brought. There were 2 Fuji X10 present, mine and “Joszef” I took the liberty to borrow Jojo’s camera to try it out. Knowing G1X’s limitations the only option shooting with it at that time is bumping its ISO. Lo and behold the bigger sensor of the Canon beats the Fuji X10, contrast, color and noise. But I’m still not sold to the idea of its small aperture [...]
Quick Review: Olympus OM-D EM-5
Regie Fernando on March 14th, 2012 with 7 Comments
Here we go! One of the hottest mirrorless camera is in our hands right now. RedDot Philippines was kind enough to give us a test run of the new flagship Micro Four Thirds Olympus OM-D E-M5 24 hours before it goes back to Japan. This is a quick preview only but we will try to tackle the important functions of this retro shooter. Please note that this is a pre-production camera and it doesn’t represent the final production quality to be released this April. I highly doubt if it will change physically though. The SLR looking E-M5 is quite portable, size [...]

Regie Fernando on December 15th, 2011 with 0 Comments
Olympus PEN Lite E-PL3 Review It was just the other day when we published the E-P3 review. It was a pleasant surprise that there is a growing interest with these new generation interchangeable cameras. Right now you’ll be reading my take on the PEN Lite, the mid-model m 4/3 Olympus camera. If you haven’t done so, kindly hit my Olympus PEN E-P3 review to get a little grasp of my initial impressions on Micro Four Thirds system and some notes comparing it to a DSLR. The E-PL3 was able to travel with me for 3 weeks in the United States on some “travel-vacation” photo [...]
Olympus PEN E-P3 Review
Regie Fernando on December 13th, 2011 with 2 Comments
Intro Through the years we have used to see APS-C sensor cameras, 1.6x and 1.5x Field Of View Crop cameras with the likes of Canon 300D to 60D and Nikon D40 to D7000. About 3 years ago the camera industry was shaken with the introduction of Micro Four Thirds mirrorless cameras. These Micro Four Thirds a.k.a. m 4/3 revolutionized how an interchangeable camera can be as small as our everyday point and shoot cameras. The FOV Crop of this system is 2.0x making a 50mm lens an equivalent of 100mm in 35mm full frame terms. In this review, I was [...]
X-rite Colormunki Photo Spectrophotometer Hands-on Review
Regie Fernando on September 14th, 2011 with 0 Comments
Intro What is a Spectrophotometer? An excerpt from www.colorwiki.com “Spectrophotometer is designed to measure light energy at various frequencies across the entire spectrum of visible light. Its measurement returns data from roughly 400nm (nanometers) to 700nm or so. Basically, it measures many bands of light at once. Spectrophotometers are able to measure reflective light (off of a page) as well as emissive light (off of a monitor) which is why many of these devices offer printer profiling abilities” I know that reading the above definition can make someone scratch his head and ignore it. But in less scientific way a Spectrophotometer [...]
Flip Mino HD Hands-on Review
Regie Fernando on March 11th, 2011 with 0 Comments
Gone are the days of lugging heavy and bulky camcorder with a bunch of Hi-8 or Mini-DV tapes. When digital technology stormed the music, photography and video industry it changed the way we use these gadgets forever. We now have options for video recording from small form factor up to a relatively portable sized serious camcorders. I had Cisco’s 3rd generation Flip Mino HD for a couple of weeks for a hands-on review. The candy bar sized device had some fun moments recording the usual “Daddy videos”. Specs of the Flip Mino HD: Model: Flip Mino HD Color: Black Dimension: 3.94” x 1.97“ [...]
CP Tech B – Grip – The Camera Belt Grip Review
Regie Fernando on October 21st, 2010 with 0 Comments
We have seen some early trials of a holster type mount for DSLR’s. Honestly I’m very skeptical of these types of accessories, in my mind I don’t think it’s a good idea to mount a camera especially the big ones to the waist. Package The B- Grip kit is composed of the B- Grip, quick release plate, nylon belt with buckles and a bag that can act as a camera rain cover. Built and Parts CP Tech’s B-Grip is made out of matte rigid PVC plastic, a very hard plastic that is not easy to break. The total length of [...]
Cam Caddie Scorpion Review
Regie Fernando on October 21st, 2010 with 0 Comments
Almost all DSLR’s today have a video recording feature, from entry level to the high-end models. The advent of shooting videos with a DSLR is becoming more mainstream nowadays. It is now a 2nd nature to a would-be buyer to consider the video feature of his / her prospective camera. But still, these DSLR’s or dubbed as HD-DSLR (High-Definition DigitalSLR) shape and form was not designed for shooting video. By saying this most photographer struggle using their camera in shooting video. Third party manufacturers invented some cool HD-DSLR rigs to solve the issue of stabilization and shooting comfortably. The products were [...]
Vivitar DF-383 Hands-on Review
Regie Fernando on June 3rd, 2010 with 0 Comments
Intro Flash, flash and flash. For all we know, the pop-up flash doesn’t do justice to a DSLR output, it makes the photos look under exposed with annoying harsh shadows. While an external flash can be bought easily, the major hindrance is the price tag. The top of the line external flash can be as expensive as an entry level DSLR camera. But the first time buyers are fortunate to have 3rd party manufacturers nowadays. In this review I was able to get a hands-on testing of a popular 3rd party brand since the 1970’s, and it’s Vivitar. I had [...]
